But, as they say, there are no hopeless situations. And as a teacher of literature with a pedagogical experience of more than 10 years, as well as a mother of two children, I want to share my own experience in overcoming this ailment of the modern younger generation.
There is no need to wait for quick results in this difficult matter, since the child can be inculcated in reading only through daily, joint, painstaking work, above all in the family.
As a rule, the reasons for the lack of reading activity in children lie in the following: they do not love, cannot, do not want. All of them are closely related.
So, let's start with the first reason: they don't like to read. It is known that children in all copy adults. Therefore, in order to instill in the child a love of reading, the parents themselves must love communication with the book. It is useless to instill in words to the child that reading is very useful and important, it is necessary to show it by example. From this follows: in the family should read everything.
When to start acting? The earlier the better. I read my children for the first time on the day I returned from the hospital. At the same time, I note that it is necessary to begin with the poetic texts, since the rhythm itself, intonations, and the melody of verse act on the young listener fascinatingly. The fairy tales of A.S. Pushkin, P.P. Ershov, children's folklore are excellently suited. You can generally accompany any activities with the child or the actions of the child himself — pestles, pies, jokes, siphoning from sleep, dressing, bathing, playing, etc. The first reading sessions will be short but frequent: the child cannot concentrate on something for a long time. one.
As children grow older, the time allowed for reading can be increased. For example, read daily for the night about half an hour. The child will calm down and tune in to sleep, and enjoy the communication with the book and the parent.
Remember, do not force children to read books that they do not like. Therefore, with an older child, it is better to choose books together. Let the trip to the bookstore for him be a pleasant, long-awaited holiday.
A child should have the opportunity to play with books freely: examine them, draw in them, nibble them, build houses and garages of them, and even swim with them (the possibilities of modern children's books can lead to clouding of the mind!). But what about respect for books? This will have to talk later, in a more conscious age.
When the child learns to read himself, you can use such techniques. An adult, reading a book to his child, may stop at the most interesting place, referring to urgent matters. There is nothing left for the kid (if he is really interested in what will happen next), how to read the book yourself and find out the denouement. In some cases, I offered my daughter to read in turns. This helps to increase the speed of reading and inculcate the habit of reading independently, because the love of reading is the same habit: one has only to get a taste, and the pleasure of the result will support the process itself.
All this will help the child to love reading. However, I note that the formation of a positive attitude to books should be dealt with before school, that is, until the moment when reading becomes a necessity. If a child from an early age did not make friends with the book, it is unlikely that compulsory reading will bring him pleasure at school.
The second reason why modern children do not like to read, lies in the fact that they do not know how to do it. I am not talking now about the simple folding of letters into syllables and about the technique of reading as a whole. To be able to read means to understand, to comprehend, to delve into the read. In this case, the so-called commented reading will help: the adult reads and explains in the course of time incomprehensible words or realities, and maybe the actions of the heroes. It is difficult for modern children to understand, for example, some artistic works of Soviet authors. Therefore, encourage the questions of young readers, discuss with them the readings. Be a guide between the child and the book.
In the formation of the ability to read help and such techniques. Ask the child to retell some episode from the book or explain the actions of the characters. And you can offer the young reader to play: stop at the denouement and ask the child to predict subsequent events. Such a game will arouse his interest and allow him to develop his imagination. An adult will see how much the child has read.
Another reason for the low reading activity of modern children is the lack of desire to spend time reading a book. But believe me, if the first two obstacles on the long road to reading love are overcome, then the child will have a desire to read. You get great pleasure when you see that the second-grader daughter is avidly reading not only what is set in school, but also, and the one-and-a-half-year-old son can hardly drag the book too heavy for him to be honored!
The book awakens imagination and imagination, entertains and educates, teaches and enriches the vocabulary, outlook, develops speech and forms literacy. Help your children on the difficult path to the book!
